Market Watch: Lilly and Myers Impress
Nearly a week after they squared off last Wednesday, two of the more marketable starting pitchers ‘on the market’ were back at it Wednesday. While neither Ted Lilly or Brett Myers got the win in last weeks match-up (click here for recap), both pitchers helped up their respective trade value to new heights. Those heights were surpassed Wednesday evening when both lefties put up a pair of stellar lines in Houston:
Myers came away with the victory with a complete game gem (12 K’s) while Lilly held the Astros scoreless for nearly 6 innings (8 K’s). Andy Martino of the New York Daily News wrote yesterday that he believes with both Cliff Lee and Dan Haren off the market, the Met’s are likely to stay put as the deadline approaches. If the team does trade for a pitcher, it likely will be the Chicago lefthander. According to major league sources, the Cubs‘ asking price remains too high for the Mets’ taste. Chicago wants a high-end prospect and the remainder of Lilly’s $12 million salary paid.
