Who's left? Top 5 remaining UFA's that may end up a Ranger

Nick PerriJul 22, 2010

The Rangers still have a couple spots that they can improve on, and Glenn Sather has said that he is still looking at his options. There is still a lot of talent left in Free Agency that the Rangers may try to snag. So which players may be on Sathers radar?

5. Alex Ponikarovsky- Poni is one of the best forwards remaining in Free Agency, and can be a steal for the team that picks him up. He scored 21 goals and 29 assists last season in 77 games played. He can play a two-way style of play, and can be a playmaking forward. He is a good use on a power-play, and again he can be a steal for the team that picks him up.

4. Maxim Afinogenov- Afinogenov scored 24 goals, and added 37 assists last season, in which he played all 82 games. He played an excellent season last season for Atlanta, with and without Kovalchuck, and could play well with Marian Gaborik. He is still fairly young, at age 30, and could be signed for a 1-2 year contract. He would be a great addition for any team looking for some offense.

3. Lee Stempniak- Lee had an outstanding season for both Toronto and Phoenix last season, scoring 14 goals in 18 games with the Coyotes. The young speedy winger would be another great addition for a team looking for offense. The Rangers could sign him as secondary scoring for Marian Gaborik, and they could be great on the same line. Stempniak has speed and Gaborik has speed, so they would be a perfect match.

2. Bill Guerin- The Rangers have been interested in him for a while now, and could use his offensive talent, and veteran presence in the locker room. Playing alongside Sidney Crosby, Guerin scored 21 goals and 24 assists in 78 games. Maybe it could be the same playing with our all-star forward Marian Gaborik. Guerin could also be a key part to any team’s power-play, and he would come at a very small price.

1. Alexander Frolov- Frolov is a great playmaking forward, and would play well with Marian Gaborik. The Rangers have had interest in him for a while, and they may make a final move to try and sign him. He has planned to make his decision sometime soon, so if the Rangers would still like to add him to the roster they must do so soon.

This article is fully through my opinion, so I will understand if you disagree with my choices. If you do, leave a response below and I will get back to you. Anyway, thanks for the read I hope you enjoyed.
