Matt Jones Flies Under Radar to Contend at the John Deere Classic
Matt Jones is firing low numbers and joins Steve Stricker and Paul Goydos as favorites to win the John Deere Classic this weekend in Silvis, Illinois, on the TPC course.
This course must be suited for a certain kind of game that I and many many others are unfamiliar with. That would be scoring in the low 60s and high 50s.
Jones is currently 13-under, only three shots off this torrid pace set by two extremely hot players right now. All three of these guys should buy a lotto ticket tonight. Their luck is running off the charts, mostly in putts dropping on fast greens.
Some kind of scoring record might be set this weekend, I am sure. Is 26-under in the back of anyone's mind? Holy moly Batman, I need a new driver.
Matt Jones is having a pretty good year with almost a million dollars in earnings, 59th on the money list, and four top 10s. I would say he might be hunting for his first top-three finish and a taste of weekend pressure.
Just a taste because Stricker is cold as ice and a seasoned veteran with many PGA Tour wins, and Goydos is a journeyman player, but hot this weekend, and who knows, maybe a third PGA Titlle of his own.
You have to wait til Saturday, now.
Stricker -16 Goydos -15 Jones -13 presently.
Goydos has a hole remaining and along came Jones still has 15,16, 17, and 18 to play.
The order should remain the same for Saturday as Jones will not catch Goydos quite yet.
Enjoy your meatloaf.
