Clevelanders Do Not Need a "King" Anymore, but Browns Fans Need a "Big Show"

Daniel WolfJul 9, 2010

LeBron James is gone, but Clevelanders do not need to worry about that after July 31st; the Cleveland Browns training camp opens and the era of the "Big Show" begins.

To begin, this is more of an uplifting article to cheer up the down and out Cleveland spirit, so if you are looking for Browns opinion or insight, then you should just move on to the next article.

In the dark and dreary times of the departure of one of the biggest names Cleveland sports has ever seen, a new era is set to begin.

Not only for the Cavs when their 2010-2011 season starts up in November sans a former "King," but for the Browns too.

New President Mike Holmgren (nicknamed the "Big Show") brings one of the most impressive resumes to the coast of Lake Erie that includes multiple trips to Super Bowls, victories in Super Bowls, and success in developing the most important position in football which is the quarterback position.

The Browns need all of those right now and especially a Super Bowl berth in lieu of the city losing their best chance on winning a championship with the departure of a so-called "King," who turned out to me more of a "Queen" in the eyes of many Cleveland sports fans.

Will the Browns make the playoffs in 2010?

Probably not, but they should be on pace to improve on a 5-11 record from one season ago, and progress is all Clevelanders want to see from their beloved football team.

The fans need something to brighten their days, and on July 31st, that time will come with the opening of training camp.

Holmgren, General Manager Tom, and Head Coach Eric Mangini need to use this loss of a Cleveland sports icon as motivation to give the fans want they so desire and that is fun, entertaining, and competitive football in 2010.

Not another torturous season like what happened in the first 12 games of 2009.

The Browns need to build on their four-game winning streak because they are currently undefeated as of right now, along with 31 other NFL teams.

The difference between the Browns and the rest of the NFL right now is that the Browns have a city who has one of the biggest hearts of any other sports city in the entire country, and they are hungry for a winner.

If the Browns know what's good for them, it is to feed off of the city and its hunger to give them something fun in 2010.

It has happened in the past, but it is when a city is down in the dumps as Cleveland is right now that a Cinderella story emerges and a team surprises the entire league by making a run at something special.

Will that be a playoff berth?

The Browns and the city of Cleveland can only cross their fingers and hope for the best, but stranger things have happened in the sports world.

"In Holmgren We Trust."
