Geno Auriemma: Great at Winning Titles but Not at Tipping

Daniel DinunzioJun 17, 2010

Well Geno, I don't doubt your ability to win games as a coach.

You've won numerous NCAA Championship titles and have also led the likes of Diana Taurasi and Maya Moore to multiple NCAA titles in the past.

The fact of the matter is you're one of the most highly paid state employees in the state of Connecticut.

Growing up, I looked up to you. Not only as a coach, but a guy that got the most out of his players.

I played against your son in travel basketball as a fierce competitor.

You were always there to cheer him on, but I wouldn't back down from his challenge or chance to drain a three in his eye.

Now, as a student at UConn, I got to meet you for the first time at my job, Indian Hill C.C. on Tuesday's during a tournament.

You pulled up in your black 2010 Supercharged Land-rover Model.

When you looked confused pulling into the parking lot, I guided you. When you came up to the bag-drop I put your clubs on the cart.

All I got from you, was a, "thanks kid."  Not even a dollar from the second highest paid employee in the State of Connecticut.

Wow Geno, and to think of what pedestal I put you on.  What a big mistake that was.

I guess that can be attributed to your personality and your massive ego.

You may have a 78 consecutive game win streak on the line or whatever, but does that really matter? I don't think it does.  The character of a person and how you treat others is what earns my respect.

Break John Wooden's record or not, it doesn't matter to me.

Everything happens for a reason and Geno keeps winning titles.

Do something you're good at. As a coach you're special, other than that it is certainly up for debate.
