Lakers vs. Celtics Game 4: Kobe's 33 Points Could Not Hold Off Celtics Bench!

Brandon WrayJun 10, 2010

A break out of the Celtics bench players in the fourth quarter of Game 4 allowed the Celtics to tie the series 2-2. The combination of Nate Robinson and Glen "Big Baby" Davis over powered the the majority of the Lakers starting line up.

The Lakers went into the fourth quarter with a small 2 point lead but allowed Boston to break out with the Celtics running the majority of their bench players. The Celtics bench exploded quickly and overcame the Lakers. The Celtics only big faults were two technical fouls by Rasheed Wallace and Nate Robinson.

Problems continued to hamper L.A when Kobe and Fisher both failed to convert their technical free throws. As L.A. began to close the gap Doc Rivers took a gamble and left the bench out on the floor. The gamble worked and allowed the combo of Nate Robinson and Glen "Big Baby" Davis to continue.

L.A. continued to try and hit shots from the field while Boston drove the paint making several shot's with the and one foul. A long bomb to Rajon Rondo sealed the game in Boston's favor and left L.A. scratching their heads. What exactly went wrong?

The Lakers main problem was their inability to rebound the ball. On several occasions Boston was able to come up with a rebound the Lakers clearly should have had. On one occasion a missed shot resulted in the ball dropping between Lamar Odom, Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant and Derek Fisher. No major attempt by any of the four Laker players allowed a hustle play by Rajon Rondo to secure the rebound resulting in a two point score for Boston.

Los Angeles also failed to attempt scoring in the paint until the last minute and a half of regulation. Failed shot attempts from the field and numerous turn overs from bad passing were the deciding factor when the game came down to the line late in the fourth quarter.

Boston has now put to rest any notion their bench is not a threat. It's up to L.A. to respond and let Boston know they are not going down without a bigger fight. A stronger effort from Los Angeles in the fourth quarter and more hustle attempts at rebounds are what the Lakers need to finally close out Boston and get the redemption they seek!
