Tom Izzo Shouldn't Go Anywhere ....

Let me postulate an idea, possibly and probably an unpopular one, but an idea none the less.

But first some thoughts as background…

Tom Izzo is arguably the best and most sought after, honest, forthright, and winningest college coach in all of the USA…   Michigan State is a better place because of him,  I appreciate him, and wish I could actually meet the man, share a BBQ and a beer with him some day.

In my opinion, many other coaches that are coveted by the NBA, seem to have baggage, slippery reputations, not of the finest caliber.  NBA coaches are hired to be fired (as they say..) Some coaches like Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim were coveted, but have made wise decisions to stay in the college ranks.  Their names are placed in rare air, they have not soiled their reputation with the glamor and gleam of millions of $$ and less than savory lifestyles.

Now Coach Izzo is being wooed, looking at what seems to be greener pastures, a new challenge… But is it…?   It has its own headaches dealing with Multimillion dollar Prima Donnas, who can ‘t be disciplined by kicking them out of practice. Players who spend more time on blackberries than shoot rounds, there are no gym rats in the NBA, only pampered players with tag-a-long posses, private chefs, and groupies… Frankly, I see high scoring games in the NBA to attract viewers, and limited defense, its more run and shoot… While the D1 game is more of a pure game, still practicing defense, set plays, and kids playing with true passion and heart.

Now the idea….  This is a good thing… With the NBA coming so hard, and Izzo’s Spartan ranks are filled with NBA hopefuls and true draft choices .. You, Mr. Izzo are more valuable to the potential future Spartan players. Since these are the ones dreaming of being in the NBA. You are more sought after by the same players who desire to one day join the NBA. club.  What kid wouldn't’t want to come play for you?  Your recruiting stock has shot up and surpassed your peers at this point. You are the great college coach, man , leader who is wanted by the NBA. Note: the NBA is not the “next” Level.

Having your phone ring with other opportunities only advances your worth in the eyes of incoming freshman, their high school coaches and parents. Other coaches phones aren’t ringing.. No one else in the great State of Michigan, or in the Big Ten for that matter is coveted like you are….  This NBA distraction actually is a benefit and boon to your already legendary Spartan career.  

I hope you Stay Coach Izzo, stay and grow your legend in East Lansing and Michigan State.  You are where you belong, need to be, where you are wanted and Loved.  The grass isn’t always greener on the other side…
