Five Reasons the Suns can Take down the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals

The Suns and the Lakers tip off Monday night in what should be a very entertaining series between two of the best teams in the NBA. The Lakers advanced to this round with a dominating series win over the Jazz. The Suns advanced as they trashed the San Antonio Spurs and now are ready to take on the defending champions.

Five Reasons the Suns Beat the Lakers

1) Steve Nash, need I say more?—this one is the easiest reason that the Suns will beat the Lakers. Steve Nash is the MVP of the Suns and the best all around point guard in the league. He has a toughness that is second to none that he displayed in the series against the Spurs. Playing bloodied and bruised is par for the course for this leader of the Suns and it is his drive and motivation that will get him to the finals.

2) Andrew Bynum is hurt, again-- Bynum discovered a small tear in his meniscus after straining his knee during the Lakers’ first-round series with Oklahoma City. This injury has continued to get worse and will only limit his playing ability down the stretch. For the Lakers to win they need to effectively use their size down low and if Bynum is on the bench that will be hard to do.

3) Suns are deep: Amare Stoudemire is one of the best power forwards in the league and as free agency nears he is putting up some serious numbers. He will be a tough defensive cover for the Lakers. Jason Richardson is averaging 22 points per game and the Suns are 31-4 when he scores 20 points or more in a game. He will guard Kobe and could make all the difference in this series. Goran Dragic has been the super sub for the Suns and he brings the same type of energy and scoring ability that Nash brings to the Suns. This will be a tough matchup for the Lakers and could lead to an early exit for the defending champions.

4) Kobe’s knee is an area of concern: The latest report out of ESPN discusses the injury to Kobe’s Bryant knee. Kobe Bryant had a “significant amount of fluid” drained from his right knee recently and hasn’t practiced with the Los Angeles Lakers since they advanced through the Western Conference semifinals, the Los Angeles Times reported on Monday. This is not good news for a Lakers team that is already dealing with plenty of injuries. The suns will run as much as possible and put that knee to the test and that could lead to the Lakers being eliminated by the Suns.

5) Suns Monkey off their back: It is advertised anywhere that you want to read about that Steve Nash has never made it to the finals. In fact he holds the record for the most games played in the playoffs with out going to the finals. That will motivate this team to strive to win this series and this is not your ordinary Suns team as evident by the sweep of the Spurs. Grant Hill and several other players strive for the spot in the finals and the chemistry on this team led by the underrating coaching of Alvin Gentry will lead the suns to a win over the Lakers in six games.
