Helio Castroneves Leads Opening Day Practice for Indianapolis 500 Mile Race

Helio Castroneves was fastest on Saturday for opening day practice from the Brickyard at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway,Indiana. Drivers flock every year from all over the world to the Crossroads of America for the biggest motor race in the world the Indianapolis 500.

Castroneves comes into Indy this year looking to become a four time winner after winning in 2001, 2002 and last year in 2009. Castroneves topped the practice session Saturday at Indianapolis running a lap at 39.71 at 226.603 mph.

The speeds at Indianapolis are incredible and this race is a race all of it's own, teams and drivers some would say that the season starts after Indy because it's the race all wanna win and put some much focus on. Dario Franchitti and Scott Dixon in the Target cars for Ganassi Racing were second and third.

Tomas Scheckter was fastest in rookie orientation program from Indy on Saturday. Scheckter ran a lap at 40.61 at 221.616 mph ahead of Graham Rahal who was second in Saturday's session for rookie drivers at the Brickyard.

More practice continues Sunday from the Speedway Capitol Of The World at Indianapolis with more practice this week and Pole Day next Saturday.
