The Valero Texas Open: Next Stop on the PGA Tour, Some Texas Heat

Thomas MorelandMay 11, 2010

Ernie Els has two tour wins this season, and will be the favorite easily in this tournament, in my humble golfing opinion.

South Africa is pretty hot, I would assume, having never been there. But hey, it is Africa, right?

Els will play well in this hot humid type weather, as the late spring succumbs to the sweltering heat of the Texas summer. That seems like a good plan anyway, as I have selected him as my A fantasy player this week in Yahoo Fantasy Golf.

Currently I am only still ahead of one Yahoo expert for the season, as these events continue.

The defending champion of the Valero Texas Open, played at the TPC In San Antonio, is Zach Johnson. I had thought about picking Johnson, but chose J.B. Holmes and Fredrick Jacobson instead.

My B player backups will be Sergio Garcia and Bo Van Pelt.

My C player choice this week will be Shaun Micheel, with Jarrod Lyle as his replacement, in case of missed cuts or poor play.

This field is a bit weak in terms of world ranked players so maybe picking the few shiny apples out of the barrel will be easier this week.

Players in the early hours on Thursday and Friday will benefit from less heat and wind than the guys going off in the later morning and afternoon rounds.

In other golf news, Erica Blasberg of the LPGA was found dead in her home located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

At age 25, Blasberg's sudden demise was stunning news to the close knit women of the LPGA Tour. She was a budding star who just tied for fourth in Mexico earlier this season.

Many stories have already surfaced about Tiger's neck, Hank Haney's departure from the Woods camp, and any other Tiger Woods tidbits that people—or should I say the news media in particular—seem to gobble up incessantly.

Can I ask a question? When did the whole world start revolving around what any one particular athlete is doing, especially when not playing their sport.

Joe Dimaggio and Marilyn Monroe would have committed suicide together with the constant media attention and barrage of articles, comments, and buzz they could create in this day and age.

Holy enough is enough, Batman, can he just play some golf and wear someone out on the weekend behind closed doors?

Who wants to jump in that bed now?  Enquiring minds want to know.

Have a great week.
