2010 NFL Draft: NFL.com's Bucky Brooks Says Eric Berry Falls Past Browns, No Way
In NFL.com's latest update of his 2010 NFL mock draft, Bucky Brooks predicts that hyped Tennessee safety Eric Berry will slip down from the top 10 and land at No. 13 with the San Francisco 49ers.
The sad thing about this prediction is that it would never happen.
How is it that Brooks thinks this will actually happen?
There is no supporting argument stating why he feels this way, and with so many teams in the top 10 looking for an impact safety to add to their secondary, this just seems way out of leftfield and highly unlikely.
Berry is one of the most talked about players leading up to the NFL Draft and his draft projection has varied across the mocks on the internet.
Going as high as No. 2 to the Detroit Lions, and now falling as low as No. 13, Berry may actually land somewhere in the middle around where the Cleveland Browns are picking at No. 7.
Many will argue that Berry will not be available when the Browns are on the clock at No. 7, since teams like Tampa Bay, Kansas City, and Seattle could all use a talent like Berry.
To all those fans who think that Berry will get picked higher than No. 5, there has not been a defensive back take in the top five since Charles Woodson was picked at No. 4 by the Oakland Raiders back in 1998.
Too much money is at hand, and it will most likely get invested in offensive or defensive linemen in the top 10, but not a safety.
So he may be the second coming of an impact player in the mold of the Ravens' Ed Reed. But that still doesn't mean he is a sure thing when a team needs to invest around $30 million in guaranteed money.
Brooks' free fall of Berry comes as a big shock because if Berry does fall, there is now way he gets pas the Browns at No. 7 because they have big holes to fill in their secondary.
Even though Brooks has the Browns taking Florida cornerback Joe Haden at No. 7, there is still no way they pass on Berry if both players are on the board.
Brooks needs to just swap the Browns' pick and the 49ers' pick because logically it would happen that way.
