On the First Day of Christmas, the Red Wings Gave To Me...

Matt HutterDec 14, 2009

As kids (and maybe some adults, I'm not trying to crush any dreams here) eagerly await the gifts provided by a jolly fat guy in a red and white suit, I thought of another group of guys in red and white that could make my Christmas especially joyous.

From Dec. 14 to Dec. 25, I will mimic the pattern of the 12 Days of Christmas song by asking for one thing on the first day, two things on the next day, and so on until Christmas.

But, as this is the season of giving, I'd love for all of you to give me your thoughts on what you'd like from the Red Wings for Christmas, so please, post away!

So, today, Dec. 14, is the first of those fabled 12 days of Christmas.

What can the Red Wings give to me?

A dominating performance by Pavel Datsyuk

Pav's been un-Datsyuk like for most of this season.  He is coming off a solid two-assist effort on Saturday, but we have yet to see him dominate a game the way he has so many times in the past.

Doing this against a very stingy Phoenix team tonight won't be easy, but what better time and what better team to totally undress and re-establish himself as one of the most electrifying players in the league?

With yet another regular in Darren Helm sidelined with an injury, the onus on the star players like Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg to carry the team on their backs is even greater.

So, on this first day of Christmas, please Pav, make me believe again!  Leave a few jockstraps hanging from the rafters of Joe Louis Arena and the Phoenix Coyotes cursing your name as they leave the ice in defeat!
