Fantasy Football Week 2: Updated Trade Value for Top 100 Players

Timothy RappSep 16, 2021

It's that time of year again, folks: The trade value chart is back!

Smart fantasy football players right now are remaining patient with players who had a tough debut, and they aren't getting too enamored with those who had a shockingly huge performance. One week does not a trend make.

However, smart fantasy players also know a good deal when they see one, and if one of your leaguemates is panicking and willing to sell off one of their players for pennies on the dollar after a tough Week 1, don't be afraid to pounce.

That's where the trade chart comes into play. Below, you'll find a value for the top 100 players in fantasy. If a player is valued at 15, for instance, it means any trade of players should also equate to a total of 15 for the deal to be fair (so a player with a trade value of eight and one of seven, for instance). Ideally, you always want to get more value than you're giving back.

And while this is a general framework to help you properly value players, always consider your personal team needs and your league's format when making a deal.

So that's the gist. Any players not listed have a trade value of one. And as always, may the fantasy points be with you!

Analysis

OK, let's talk about a few players you might be able to buy low on this week, sell high or sit on for now.

Aaron Rodgers is a fantastic buy-low candidate. He has the perfect storm going—an absolutely dreadful first week with the combination of people wondering if his heart is really in this season after he tried to force his way out of Green Bay in the summer. That, plus the fact that he's 37, and you can see why some fantasy players may be ready to already abandon ship.

But here's the thing: He's the defending MVP. He's thrown for 4,000 or more yards nine times since 2008. He's thrown for 30 or more touchdowns seven times in that time, and 40 or more touchdowns three times, including his 48 last year.

It's possible the 37-year-old will just fall off a cliff, but it seems pretty unlikely.

No, maybe he won't replicate his MVP season from a year ago. Statistically, it was his best season ever. His fantasy value deserves to take a slight hit. But he's still a locked-and-loaded QB1, and if you aren't thrilled with your option at the position and the person who has Rodgers in your league is hitting the panic button, scoop him up.

On the other hand, Melvin Gordon III is a great sell-high candidate. He was incredibly efficient in Week 1, rushing for 101 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries while adding three receptions for 17 yards.

But Javonte Williams looms. The rookie was given 14 carries (45 yards) played a major role in the offense:

And 70 of Gordon's rush yards came on one run:

Despite Gordon's big game, this has the makings of a pretty even timeshare. You might be able to use the Broncos star's big day and name recognition to sell him at his high point. Maybe you could target players in higher value brackets such as a Kyler Murray, Dak Prescott, Deebo Samuel or Allen Robinson.

Finally, if you were savvy enough to snag Elijah Mitchell after Trey Sermon was inactive on Sunday, resist the urge to sell high.

The 23-year-old has a few factors working in favor of a potentially big rookie season. For one, he already made the most of his opportunity, rushing 19 times for 104 yards and a score. He was very good vs. Detroit.

Plus, we know the San Francisco 49ers want to run the ball, and Mitchell's main competition is second-year back JaMycal Hasty and a fellow rookie in Sermon.

Whereas a player like Ty'Son Williams has veterans like Latavius Murray, Devonta Freeman and Le'Veon Bell nipping at his heels, Mitchell is largely competing with players just as unproven as he is. You could well be looking at this year's James Robinson or Antonio Gibson.

That's upside worth keeping on your team unless you get blown away by an offer.
