Who Will You Vote For the 2010 NBA All Star Game in Dallas?

Allen MollNov 12, 2009

You know the old saying that, “Everything is done big in Texas.” The NBA’s decision to hold the 2010 All-Star Game in the new Texas Stadium, which is home to the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, is definitely doing things big. This week, the league opened up the voting for the NBA’s 59th annual exhibition showcasing the game’s biggest stars. The event is poised to break the record attendance(44,735) for an NBA game, which was set at the ‘89 All Star Game, ironically also in the state of Texas, at the Astrodome in Houston. The new stadium will hold a minimum of more than 80,000 people.

Mavericks owner Mark Cuban, always known for taking things to the extreme, joked that “if we could get everyone to sit on each other’s laps, we could hit 200,000 people to put the record out of reach!”

Of the 60 players on the Western Conference ballot, 6 of them are Mavericks. Four of those players, Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, and Josh Howard, have all been previous contestants while Jason Terry, a former 6th Man of the Year winner, is hoping to make his first.

The NBA will reveal the All Star players after compiling all votes from fans, players, and coaches in late January. This year, in addition to the usual way to cast votes either in NBA arenas or online, fans can submit ballots via text messages, on Facebook, or through their Twitter accounts.

After a quick scan of the potential players, the folks who decided on the lists of stars may have made a few mistakes. In the East, backup players like Kirk Hinrich and Courtney Lee are on the ballot at the guard spot but fans don’t have tho option of voting for Philadelphia’s Lou Williams who has excelled as a starting point guard(15 ppg and 4.9 assists). Elton Brand gets a nod, probably because of reputation, even though his production is only half of his customary numbers at 10 ppg and 5 rebounds. Out West, the ballot does not include the Clippers Chris Kaman, who is having as good of a season of any center in the conference, but has the Kings Spencer Hawes, who has averages of 10 pts and 7 rebs. Also, at the guard spot, Minnesota’s backup point guard, Ramon Sessions makes the list while, Jonny Flynn, who starts ahead of him, is left off. Maybe it is rookie hazing!
