Good, Bad and Ugly: What's Next After Wild WWE Wedding of Lana, Bobby Lashley?
Monday's Raw featured the wedding of Lana and Bobby Lashley in the closing segment. It's hard to put into words how wild this event was.
We saw everything from jilted exes objecting, Liv Morgan professing her love for Lana and Rusev popping out of a giant cake to beat down the man who was about to marry his former wife.
All of this is on top of flubbed lines, loud chants from the audience and several awkward exchanges between the bride and the man officiating the ceremony.
As expected, the wedding did not go as planned. We have never seen a ceremony end without controversy in WWE other than Randy Savage and Elizabeth at SummerSlam 1991.
We are entering a new decade, and this storyline is entering a new chapter. Let's look at what's next for everyone involved.
Rusev finally came out on top in one of these segments when he beat the life out of Lashley to end the ceremony and get a small measure of revenge against the man who he believes stole his wife.
Unfortunately, this does not mean The Bulgarian Brute is done with either of them. He and Lana are married in real life, so they will likely continue to be linked in storylines until they eventually reunite as a couple.
This doesn't mean he can't have a feud or two with no involvement from Lana and Lashley. Rusev has barely gotten to wrestle in recent weeks because of this storyline. He and Lashley have been in some scrapes, but he has only had a couple of real matches since this whole feud began. His bout with No Way Jose barely counts as a match.
Lashley and Rusev are going to have one more showdown to end their rivalry for the time being. Once that is over, both men can move on to new opponents until they are inevitably brought back together by all of this drama. We will get to how that match will go down in a bit.
Lashley ended up having the worst night of his life on Monday. Not only was his wedding crashed by several people, but he was also beaten up by Rusev and found out Lana may have been unfaithful to him with Morgan.
It's going to be interesting to see where WWE takes his character from here. Will he stay with Lana after all of the trouble? Will he continue his feud with Rusev? Will he wash his hands of this whole situation and walk away? Will his sisters get involved?
After he has another bout with Rusev, Lashley needs to focus on getting back into the hunt for a singles title. It doesn't even have to be the Universal Championship. He could pursue the U.S. title held by Andrade and it would probably lead to the best matches of his career.
A lot of people think Rusev and Lashley will eventually unite as a tag team once both men are over Lana, and that is a definite possibility, but that should be saved for later in the year, like WrestleMania 36.
The two of them together would create a nearly unstoppable duo. Both men are powerhouses who have backgrounds in different forms of wrestling and martial arts. Just imagine what they could do in a match with a team like The Viking Raiders or AOP. It would be epic.
Lana and Liv Morgan
Lana has been the reason for all of this mayhem in recent months, and it looks like WWE plans to continue this storyline, at least for a little while.
The addition of Morgan adds a new chapter to this story nobody saw coming. It could lead to Lashley leaving Lana if he finds out she was unfaithful while they were together.
The videos hyping Morgan's return showed a different woman than the one we knew from The Riott Squad. They were vague, but we knew she was ditching the pink hair and blue tongue for a more mature look and attitude.
Bringing her into the fold has also done something nobody predicted when this storyline began. She came out by confessing her love for Lana and telling the world about their relationship, which also outed Lana as somebody who does not identify as heterosexual.
Lana took to Twitter on Tuesday and posted the following statement: "Don't assume someone's sexuality. Just because they are not outspoken in the LGTBQ community doesn't mean that they're not pansexual, bisexual, gay, transgender or trying to process their sexuality. Even if they are married. For many it's complicated. Please have compassion."
While Sonya Deville has been shown with her girlfriend on Total Divas and has been open about her sexuality since appearing on Tough Enough, this storyline marks the first time WWE has used an LGBTQ relationship as part of an angle since the ill-advised Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo wedding in 2002 that ended up being a sham.
We are living in a time when people are much more conscious of how LGBTQ people are portrayed in film and television. WWE needs to handle this storyline properly or it will risk offending a lot of people. The next few weeks will be vital to making sure these characters are portrayed in a way that is respectful and accurate.
The Royal Rumble
The next pay-per-view is The Royal Rumble. Rusev and Lashley could have another singles match, but a better option would be to have a mixed tag bout with all four people involved in this story.
Rusev and Morgan could team up to battle Lana and Lashley. Morgan and Rusev have both been hurt by The Ravishing Floridian, and working together is the only way they might be able to get closure.
This all depends on how Lashley reacts to everything that happened on Monday. If he wants to remain with Lana, this match will work. If he is fed up with everything, it won't happen.
The Rumble is still over three weeks away on January 26, so WWE has plenty of time to tease this contest before making it official. It's the only outcome that makes sense after what happened on Monday, and it would allow all four Superstars to move on once it's over.
What do you want to see happen with Rusev, Lashley, Lana and Morgan going forward?
