Kwame Brown Alleges Merrill Lynch Stole $17.4M by Forging Signature in Lawsuit
Former NBA center Kwame Brown has filed a lawsuit against Merrill Lynch, accusing the wealth management company of stealing millions of dollars from him.
Per Bloomberg's Scott Soshnick, Brown said in his suit that Merrill Lynch stole $17.4 million by forging his signature on various documents that allowed a financial adviser to complete financial investments and trades without his approval.
Per Bloomberg's Edvard Pettersson, citing the complaint, Brown was told he had no money with Merrill Lynch when he requested information about his investments in 2017.
According to Basketball Reference, Brown made nearly $64 million in his career from 2001 to 2013.
Best remembered for being the No. 1 overall pick by the Washington Wizards in the 2001 NBA draft, Brown played for seven different teams in 12 seasons. His last NBA appearance came on Feb. 20, 2013, with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Brown took part in the inaugural season of the BIG3 basketball league in 2017. The 36-year-old played for the 3 Headed Monsters, who lost to Trilogy in the championship game.
