The Padres are the second National League West club to reportedly express interest in bringing Harvey aboard.
ESPN.com's Jerry Crasnick reported Monday the San Francisco Giants "have discussed the possibility of taking a flier" on Harvey. SNY's Andy Martino added the Giants have shown "very strong" interest in the 29-year-old.
According to Puma, the Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles joined the chase after Harvey was designated for assignment following his refusal to accept a demotion to the minor leagues.
Regardless of where he winds up, it appears Harvey will be shipped out of town sooner rather than later. On Monday, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported the Mets are "confident" they will find a trade partner and noted they will also pick up the "vast majority" of his remaining $4.5 million salary to extract some return value for the enigmatic right-hander.
In eight appearances that spanned 27 innings this season, Harvey went 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA, 1.56 WHIP, 20 strikeouts and nine walks.
The Padres, who occupy the NL West cellar, rank 13th among all National League clubs with a 4.48 ERA.
