
Madrid Open 2018: Tuesday Tennis Scores, Results, Updated Schedule
World No. 1 and top seed Simona Halep is into the third round of the 2018 Madrid Open after thrashing Elise Mertens in straight sets on Tuesday.
Halep dropped only three games as she cruised past her opponent in just 71 minutes. She will play Czech Republic's Kristyna Pliskova next.
Also safely through is Petra Kvitova, who saw off the challenge of Monica Puig. The win was her first over the Puerto Rican and sees her maintain the form she showed in winning the 2018 Prague Open on Saturday.
In the men's draw Juan Martin del Potro progressed with a straight sets win over Damir Dzumhur. However, third seed Grigor Dimitrov is out after he was beaten in three sets by Milos Raonic.
Great Britain's Kyle Edmund is also through after a straightforward win over Daniil Medvedev and will play Novak Djokovic in the second round on Wednesday.

Halep continues to look the part in Madrid with another comprehensive win, as she ended Mertens' 13-match unbeaten streak to advance to the third round.
Mertens had been struggling with illness, but Halep showed no mercy as she took the first set 6-0. WTA Insider showed how dominant she was in the early stages:
Halep broke again in the first game of the second set from 40-0 down and consolidated the break to move into a 2-0 lead.
Mertens tried to battle back in the second set, but it was too late to make an impact. The Belgian saved four match points in the final game before finally succumbing to the top seed.
Halep has now won her last 14 matches at the Madrid Open, per WTA Insider:
The Romanian will now play Pliskova, who beat Sara Sorribes Tormo in straight sets. Pliskova joins her sister, Karolina, in the third round, she will face Sloane Stephens.
Kvitova found it slightly tougher going as she beat Puig 6-3, 7-6 (10-8). The first set was a tight affair but Kvitova earned a break at 4-3 and then broke again to take it 6-3, as shown by the WTA:
Puig had chances to break in the second set but Kvitova managed to come up with her best tennis at the crucial moments. Live Tennis showed how she failed to convert eight break points:
She was made to rue missing those opportunities as Kvitova took the tie-break with her third match point to wrap up the victory.
Del Potro made light work of his first outing of the clay court season with a comfortable win over Dzumhur. The Argentine took just 80 minutes to secure his place in the second round with a 6-3, 6-3 win.

The 29-year-old was rarely troubled and will now face Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic for a place in the quarter-finals.
Raonic is also through after a thrilling battle with Dimitrov. The Canadian won the first set 7-5, but Dimitrov hit back by winning the second 6-3 to level the match.
The third set saw opportunities for both players, but Raonic managed to save a break point at 3-3 which was to prove crucial.
The Canadian then broke Dimitrov which allowed him to serve for the match and complete a hard-fought victory,
The win ends a poor run against the top players for Raonic, per Tennis TV:
Raonic now faces compatriot Denis Shapovalov as Canada's top two players face off in the last 16.
