Terrell Edmunds Says He was Using Bathroom When Steelers Called to Draft Him
Safety Terrell Edmunds was caught completely off guard Thursday in the midst of perhaps the biggest moment of his life.
The Pittsburgh Steelers took the Virginia Tech defensive back with the No. 28 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft, but as seen in this video courtesy of 247Sports' Kevin Boilard, Edmunds said he wasn't prepared:
Edmunds revealed that he was in the bathroom when the Steelers called him to inform him that they were going to pick him.
He also said that he initially thought it was a friend pranking him before realizing it was the real deal.
Thursday was a big night for the Edmunds family since Terrell's younger brother, Virginia Tech linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, was taken by the Buffalo Bills with the No. 16 overall pick.
Per ESPN.com, Terrell and Tremaine became the first brothers to ever be selected in the first round of the same draft.
In 2016, Terrell registered 101 tackles and four interceptions in 14 games for the Hokies, and he followed that up last season with 61 tackles and two picks in 10 contests.
Terrell fills an area of need for the Steelers, who released veteran safety Mike Mitchell this offseason.
Pittsburgh did sign former Green Bay Packers safety Morgan Burnett, though, meaning there will likely be a three-way competition for two starting safety spots between Edmunds, Burnett and Sean Davis in 2018.
Edmunds is joining an already-strong Steelers secondary that ranked fifth in the NFL against the pass last season.
