Derrius Guice Reportedly Gave Differing Accounts of NFL Draft Combine Questions
Former LSU running back Derrius Guice reportedly provided inconsistent accounts to NFL officials on three occasions after the league launched an investigation into allegations that he was asked about his sexual orientation during an interview at the scouting combine.
"There were at least three such interviews and Guice gave a different account in each," USA Today's A.J. Perez reported on Wednesday.
Perez added that while Guice "never admitted he made up the allegations," the NFL could not confirm any of his accounts.
In March, Guice appeared on SiriusXM NFL Radio and disclosed that he was asked controversial questions by at least one team during combine interviews.
"It was pretty crazy," he said. "Some people are really trying to get in your head and test your reaction. ... I go in one room, and a team will ask me do I like men, just to see my reaction. I go in another room, they'll try to bring up one of my family members or something and tell me, 'Hey, I heard your mom sells herself. How do you feel about that?'"
However, the NFL released a statement Wednesday confirming its investigation could not corroborate those claims.
"Nonetheless, we used this opportunity to reaffirm our workplace standards and emphasize the importance of fully complying with all requirements of federal and state law," league spokesman Brian McCarthy said, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "The NFL and each of its member clubs remain fully committed to fair and non-discriminatory employment practices."
According to Perez, the murky nature of Guice's allegations means there's "less chance" of him being selected in the first round of the NFL draft on Thursday evening.
Bleacher Report draft expert Matt Miller issued Guice a second-round grade and has him ranked as the No. 2 running back on his big board behind Saquon Barkley.
