NFL Draft Rumors: Arden Key, Derrius Guice, Mike Hughes 'Scrutinized Heavily'

Tyler ConwayApr 20, 2018

LSU edge-rusher Arden Key, LSU running back Derrius Guice, UCF cornerback Mike Hughes and Florida wide receiver Antonio Callaway were named as prospects who will be "scrutinized heavily" by NFL teams heading into next week's draft, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

The reasons for their respective scrutiny are varied. Callaway and Hughes have had allegations of sexual assault levied against them. Callaway and Key have had past issues with marijuana, which make them potential problems in the NFL's drug policy.

As for Guice, some teams just wonder if he's a personality fit.

"Is he talented? Yep. Do you have to have a handle on how to deal with him? Absolutely," an offensive coordinator said. "He's not a bad person—he's just immature, silly. If he wasn't all that other stuff, he'd be drafted in the top 20 picks. And he still might be in the top 20 picks."

Callaway was suspended the entire 2017 season after being charged with two felonies related to a credit card scam. That, plus a sexual assault allegation that he defended by saying he was "too stoned" to have sexual relations, has led to some teams taking him off their board entirely.

"He is super talented. The tape from his sophomore season's really good," a scout said. "But he is a train wreck when it comes to some of that off-field stuff. Poor decision-making at every turn."

Hughes has been interviewed by multiple teams during the draft process and openly discussed the sexual assault allegation that led to his departure from North Carolina. No charges were filed.

"Obviously, I have to tell them everything that happened and everything that went into why I left and also what I've learned from it," Hughes said. "What I tell teams is that they won't have any issues with me if they draft me. I haven't had any problems with the law or anything since I was at North Carolina."

A college scouting director told Pelissero that Key "played himself out of the first round" because his play dipped after a stay in a rehabilitation facility for marijuana use, which the pass-rusher has admitted to teams during the draft process.
