Lamar Jackson NFL Draft Rumors: Scouts Think QB Prospect Will Go in 1st Round
Lamar Jackson is one of the most divisive prospects heading into the 2018 NFL draft, but the quarterback might possess enough upside to be a Day 1 pick.
According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, multiple NFL scouts believe the former Heisman Trophy winner will be taken in the first round.
Bleacher Report's Matt Miller lists Jackson as his fifth-best quarterback in the class but not among the top 50 players overall.
Everyone seems to agree upon Jackson's abilities as a runner after he totaled 4,132 rushing yards and 50 touchdowns during the past three years at Louisville. The questions are whether he can succeed as a passer at the next level.
Some have even suggested he move to receiver, but it isn't something Jackson wants to do.
"I'm not gonna be a receiver. At all...that’s crazy," he said in March, per Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star. "I thought I did a great job at quarterback."
As the evaluations have continued, however, it appears many are giving him the benefit of the doubt. Jordan Schultz of Yahoo Sports provided a recent breakdown of Jackson's stock:
ESPN's Adam Schefter also reported one team considered him the second-best quarterback in the class.
Jackson has visited or worked out for the Chargers (via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network), Browns (via Rapoport), Ravens (via Albert Breer of The MMQB) and Dolphins (via Craig Mish of Sirius XM) among other teams, so there are clearly plenty of options on draft day.
This class features a lot of variety at the quarterback position, with Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen, Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen all fighting to be first-round picks. However, it seems Jackson is in the conversation as well and isn't likely to slip to Day 2.
