Emmitt Williams Sets Jordan Brand Scoring Mark; Zion Williamson Out with Injury

Rob GoldbergApr 8, 2018

Emmitt Williams set the all-time Jordan Brand Classic record with 44 points to lead Team White to a 146-136 win over Team Black Sunday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

LeBron James had the previous record with 34 points in 2003, but the LSU commit stole the show with dunk after dunk to take home the MVP award.

Some fans might have been disappointed that Zion Williamson was out with a hand injury and top overall prospect in the class, R.J. Barrett, sat out for rest, per Duke's official account. However, there was more than enough excitement without the future Blue Devils.

Williams was the biggest star of the game from the beginning, scoring 18 points in the first half on 9-of-9 shooting. He was also throwing down some of the biggest dunks you will see from a high school player.

Bryan Kalbrosky of HoopsHype discussed the performance:

This continued into the second half, with more people taking notice:

While just about every one of his shots was a dunk, he still finished 22-of-23 from the field to go with his seven rebounds. No one besides LeBron had ever scored 30 in this All-Star showcase, but Williams shattered the record books.

Jonathan Givony of ESPN provided a full box score of the game:

Nassir Little, who won MVP at the McDonald's All-American Game after scoring 28 points, was named the MVP of the Black Team after scoring 24 points with six rebounds in the loss.

The North Carolina commit was responsible for more big moments, especially when going against Duke wing Cameron Reddish.

Steven Barnhart liked the one-on-one play of the future ACC rivals:

Even with Williamson and Barrett not playing, Reddish was able to carry the torch for the elite Blue Devils class.

Bol Bol, who is headed to Oregon next season, also flashed his potential with some strong play all over the court to highlight what has become a loaded class all around.

Still, no one improved their stock quite as much as Williams thanks to his incredible athleticism and motor.

The players will continue to spend their spring competing in various All-Star games both nationally and locally, but this is all a preparation for the upcoming season either at the college level or professionally.
