Bettor Could Win $1 Million on $25K Bet If Michigan Beats Villanova
One bettor will be watching Monday's national championship between the Michigan Wolverines and Villanova Wildcats with heightened interest.
According to Tilman Fertitta, owner of the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas, Derek Stevens wagered $25,000 on March 3 on Michigan to win its second national title. Should the Wolverines prevail, Stevens will win $1 million:
"Today could be the day I make @DerekJStevens $1M richer. If @umichbball beats @NovaMBB in the #FinalFour2018 match up - his $25K bet at my @GoldenNuggetLV is a $1M winner! #whatwasithinking #GoNova pic.twitter.com/43oIqIjBZ6

Stevens is a co-owner of The D Las Vegas, a hotel and casino in Sin City, and a graduate of Michigan. He told the Detroit Free Press' Perry A. Farrell in March he and Fertitta went back and forth about the large bet.
"He has been willing to take a couple of big bets over the years," Stevens said of Fertitta. "About a month [ago] I was talking to him and I said 'I'd like to take a shot at winning a million.' We went back and forth and he finally said 'yes I'll take it.'"
Although Stevens is just one win away from cashing in on his bet, the odds of him collecting aren't looking good. Michigan is a seven-point underdog against Villanova, according to OddsShark.
