Richard JanvrinApr 2, 2018

Now that we've hit the beginning of April, it's starting to become more and more real—we're less than a month away from the NFL draft.

While there are still a few pro days left, we've seen the vast majority of them take place, especially among the elite prospects for this draft class.

Below, we'll look at a first-round mock draft and look at three players who excelled at their pro day.

Pro-Day Winners

Sam Darnold, QB, USC

In a draft class where there are arguably four or five guys who could go first overall, Darnold helped his truthers with his pro-day outing.

Throwing in wet weather, Darnold was still able to excel.

Daniel Jeremiah of NFL Network was most impressed with Darnold's anticipation and timing.

Albert Breer let us inside a conversation Darnold had with a USC staffer with his personal quarterback coach Jordan Palmer right there with him in which the staffer was telling Darnold they were going to move the pro-day times around so Darnold wouldn't throw in the rain.

However, Darnold was fine with throwing in the rain and even said the words "I'm trying to go to Cleveland."

That right there is what you want in a quarterback. He sought out the challenge of throwing in the rain and showing teams what he can do.

Breer also pointed out his ability to throw on the run, and they made sure to address the question marks surrounding his arm strength and footwork.

However, Jeremiah, who noted Andrew Luck's pro day with Stanford and also said that while Darnold may not have the arm strength Luck had, Darnold's pro day was still "one of the better pro days I've seen."

High praise.

Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame

Prior to his pro day, Nelson was already considered a top prospect in this draft class, and he did nothing but improve his stock—to perhaps the Giants at No. 2—with his performance.

Mike Vorel of the South Bend Tribune described Nelson as a "freight train" and noted his "physical dominance" throughout the day.

Former Giants player Shaun O'Hara said on NFL Network that the Giants should take Nelson at No. 2 because he would help them close out games. With him and offensive tackle Nate Solder on the left side, quarterback Eli Manning would no longer need to worry about getting drilled from his blind side for most likely the rest of his career.

Nelson is in uncharted territory—it's not often we give a guard this kind of praise. Giants fans may be upset initially with their team taking Nelson at No. 2 over a quarterback or someone like running back Saquon Barkley, but they'll quickly learn their anger on draft night was all for not.

The New Jersey native should be playing for the Giants come September.

Bradley Chubb, DE, NC State

Any time you can get a grin out of Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, you've had a good day.

That's exactly what Chubb did at his pro day.

According to Nora Princiotti of the Boston Globe, Belichick's exact words to the elite defensive end prospect were "We’re picking 31st. No chance."

And that was followed by a grin.

Zak Keefer of the Indianapolis Star noted Chubb's speed and power throughout his pro day, too.

After a trade that resulted in the Indianapolis Colts trading back from the No. 3 spot to the No. 6 spot with the New York Jets, Chubb might fall a little bit after being pegged to land with the Colts when they were picking No. 3.

Either way, Chubb will be a sack machine for whatever team drafts him, and he'll be a plug-and-play from day one.

Chubb has ensured himself to be a top-seven pick come the end of the month.
