Frank Gore Rumors: RB to Visit Dolphins Amid Interest from Lions

Mike ChiariMar 22, 2018

Veteran running back Frank Gore will reportedly visit the Miami Dolphins on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Mike Jones of USA Today reported last week that Gore and the Detroit Lions were close to agreeing to a contract.

The Lions signed LeGarrette Blount instead, which could pave the way for Gore to go to Miami.

Gore, who turns 35 in May, spent the past three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts after a productive, 10-year run as a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

In his three years with the Colts, Gore averaged 984 yards and four touchdowns on the ground to go along with 34 receptions for 263 yards and two touchdowns through the air per season.

Last season, Gore finished with 961 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, as well as 29 catches for 245 yards and one score.

He also averaged just 3.7 yards per carry, which tied his career low from 2015.

Gore never averaged 4.0 yards per carry or better in Indy after hitting that mark in each of his 10 seasons with the Niners.

While Gore is no longer a top-flight feature back, he is still a workhorse even at his age.

Gore has toted the rock at least 255 times in each of the past seven seasons, and he hasn't missed a game since sitting out five in 2010.

The potential future Hall of Famer is a five-time Pro Bowler who ranks fifth on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 14,026 yards.

Miami could be a good landing spot for Gore since Kenyan Drake is the Dolphins' only viable option in the backfield.

Drake took over as Miami's starter last season after Jay Ajayi was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, and while he proved to be an explosive playmaker, he isn't necessarily a between-the-tackles runner.

If Gore signs with Miami, look for him to be the primary option in short-yardage and goal-to-go situations, with Drake getting the bulk of the work between the 20-yard lines.
