NFL Rumors: Latest Buzz on Allen Hurns, Ndamukong Suh and More

Chris RolingMar 21, 2018

With more to spend than ever before, it makes sense NFL free agency is going strong into its second week.

Second week or not, a gigantic name like Ndamukong Suh still sits on the open market and fresh faces seemingly get added to it every day. As below touches on, we're also getting into the range where restricted free agents start making the rounds and force teams into tough decisions.

Below, let's take a look at the result of these factors—the biggest rumors making the rounds.

Allen Hurns

For those out of the loop, Allen Hurns is now former Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns after the team decided to cut him Tuesday.

Jacksonville has decided to roll with Donte Moncrief and Marqise Lee at wideout after also losing Allen Robinson to the open market.

As expected, Hurns hasn't had problems drumming up a fast market, as captured by Pro Football Talk:

Hurns, 26, only caught 39 passes for 484 yards and two touchdowns last season. But teams on the market will hope he's more like the guy who scored 16 touchdowns over his first two seasons while staying healthier.

A big deal for Hurns would be the latest in a trend for the market this year where NFL teams value established players over trying to wait and develop their own. Risks or unknowns like Sammy Watkins, Cody Latimer and Ryan Grant have deals.

Both the Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets being in on Hurns makes sense. The former hasn't had a ton of cap wiggle room to work with but wouldn't mind a running mate with Dez Bryant. The latter has a lack of weapons surrounding a potential new quarterback.

Hurns, though, isn't likely to agree to terms quickly given the impressiveness of his new market already.

Cameron Meredith

Here's another case study when it comes to wideouts—Cameron Meredith.

Most outside of Chicago likely haven't heard the name often, yet Bears fans know what a talent Meredith looked like during his breakout 2016 season.

The problem? He lost essentially his entire 2017 campaign to season-ending injury. A restricted free agent coming off an injury or not, other teams have an interest in stealing him away from the Bears, according to Field Yates of ESPN:

Meredith, undrafted out of Illinois State, quietly looked like No. 1 material in 2016, catching 66 passes for 888 yards and four touchdowns. That doesn't sound amazing, but keep in mind he did this as the only legitimate threat on an offense quarterbacked by Matt Barkley, Brian Hoyer, Jay Cutler and David Fales.

Potential No. 1 wideouts like this don't hit the market often, and the Indianapolis Colts are right to see if a move is possible. The Bears will have the right to match any offer, though it's a tricky situation after splurging cap space on guys like wideout Allen Robinson, tight end Trey Burton and already fending off one offer and paying up big to keep cornerback Kyle Fuller.

The Bears will have a tough call to make here, though keeping as much talent around quarterback Mitchell Trubisky as possible will increase his chances of panning out as a franchise quarterback. But the Bears will also have an eye on the Hurns situation, especially with Robinson already trying to recruit him to Chicago.

There's no telling how this one should play out, but it's not getting the attention it deserves yet.

Ndamukong Suh

There doesn't seem to be an end in sight for Ndamukong Suh's tour on the market.

After being cut by the Miami Dolphins, Suh's market justifiably exploded. According to Yahoo Sports' Jordan Schultz, the Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints have an interest, with the latter getting a nod because "he really enjoyed Sean Payton and DC Dennis Allen" during his visit with the team

Schultz also threw the Los Angeles Rams into the mix, and ESPN's Dianna Russini added the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys.

But we're still not done. Schefter added the latest:

A few of these potential fits almost seem unfair to opposing offenses. Suh teaming up with Aaron Donald and the Rams would give the team one of the best lines in the league. Or Suh rushing the passer at the same time opponents have to account for Khalil Mack in Oakland would be a nightmare, too. Even Suh with the vastly underrated Jurrell Casey in Tennessee would cause teams serious problems.

Good luck guessing which destination Suh picks, though. He's praised a few places already and has a superb relationship with Rams strength and conditioning coach Ted Rath, as FoxSports.com's Peter Schrager pointed out

Money will play a major factor as well, though. As expected, Suh only got three years into his last contract before the per-year money crippled the Dolphins and forced them to move on after the gamble didn't produce results. Suh is 31, so it'll be interesting to see if he's angling for a short-term deal allowing him to hit the market again, or if he desires a longer structure with big guarantees to carry him for years.

Whichever teams suits his demands financially and structurally makes a huge splash and ups the odds of contention, though it could be a while before we find out what demands he's asking of his suitors.
