Why the Mountaineers can cover the spread
West Virginia has still gone 5-2 straight up and against the spread at online betting sites in its last seven games despite those two recent losses. The Mountaineers got a game-high 22 points from senior guard Jevon Carter in the rout of the Longhorns, who failed to see any of their players score in double figures.
Texas made just 17-of-50 shots from the field (34 percent), and West Virginia has held the last four opponents the team has beaten to an average of 62.5 points.
Why the Horned Frogs can cover the spread
The Horned Frogs are just 2-5 in their last seven games following a 12-0 start, but they have still managed to cover the spread in two of their past three and are 3-3 against the number in their previous six.
Three of TCU's last six games have gone to overtime, with two of them resulting in losses, so at least the team has been competitive during this stretch despite the struggles.
The Horned Frogs are coming off a 73-68 road loss to the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday, and they were covering as 2.5-point underdogs with six seconds remaining before allowing three straight points on free throws.
Smart betting pick
The Mountaineers have won all 11 meetings in this series, going 7-4 against the spread dating back to 2013. That includes a perfect 5-0 mark at TCU, with those matchups decided by an average or nearly eight points.
The Horned Frogs lost 61-60 at home last year on a questionable call, which is the closest they have come to beating West Virginia over the years. Look for that skid to continue here, so take the Mountaineers.
