Why the Blue Devils can cover the spread
The status of Coach K is still up in the air, but Duke did not have much trouble with Wake Forest in his absence, covering the spread for the second game in a row as a huge favorite.
The Blue Devils have averaged 93 points since losing to the Boston College Eagles 89-84 as 15-point road favorites, which includes a 96-85 road setback against the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
Duke has the most dominant big man in the country in freshman Marvin Bagley III (22.5 points and 11.7 rebounds per game), and Miami will have no answer for him inside.
Why the Hurricanes can cover the spread
The Hurricanes have won three of the past four meetings with the Blue Devils both straight up and against the spread. They held Duke to 70 points or less in three of the games, with the total going under in each of the previous three.
The key for Miami again will be trying to limit the Blue Devils offensively, as a fast-paced game does not favor the Hurricanes at all.
Head coach Jim Larranaga will help his team bounce back from a 72-63 road loss to the Clemson Tigers by making the players believe they can pull off the upset.
Smart betting pick
Miami has dropped three of six games after a 10-0 start, but this team will have an edge in the coaching department, especially with Coach K battling an illness.
Larranaga's squad was likely caught looking ahead to this matchup with Duke, and you can bet the Hurricanes will have a motivational advantage as home underdogs.
