Episode 142: The Simms React to Eli's Benching, T.J. Watt Interview

On the latest show, the guys begin by discussing the best No. 42s in sports (1:30); the Jimmy Garoppolo era begins in San Francisco (5:10); Michael Crabtree is upset that he looks like the villain with Aqib Talib (08:20); the media needs to lay off Robby Anderson and Jay Ajayi (11:30) and Josh Gordon was making $10,000/month selling weed in college (13:15).

Simms then gets into some notes from film study, including:  Michael Thomas can't get open regularly (14:30); Aaron Donald's performance vs. the New Orleans Saints (15:15); Cam Newton had a really rough game vs. the New York Jets (17:25); the weakness of the Panthers defense (18:00); overreactions to Tom Brady getting hit (18:40); Ndamukong Suh is no longer a top-five defensive tackle (20:30).

New York Giants fan Gabe Gomez then breaks down how NYC feels about Eli Manning's benching (22:20); Simms says this is the classiest benching he's seen in his life (25:30).

Phil Simms joins the podcast to break down the Giants' benching of Eli (31:30); the Simmses talk about Ben McAdoo's future with the Giants ( 39:00); in 2018, Eli Manning will play for _____ (41:50). 

Later in the show, Alex Smith was really bad vs. the Buffalo Bills and Tyrod Taylor is a better version of him (48:45); Simms goes off on Blake Bortles' performance vs. the Arizona Cardinals (49:00); he updates his MVP rankings, featuring players from the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles (53:55).

The guys then move on to best celebrations of Week 12 (55:00); would the Jacksonville Jaguars be favorites to win the Super Bowl if they had Derek Carr? (1:01:50); should we slow the criticism of Jameis Winston? (1:03:40); evaluating Philip Rivers' status (1:05:45); are Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs the best 1-2 WR combination in the NFL? (1:07:00); why don't more athletic defensive linemen switch to play OL in college? (1:10:25).

Finally, Simms argues with a fan about football players vs. soccer players…again (1:11:30); if the Bears were to promote Vic Fangio or Dowell Loggains…which would Simms pick? (1:14:00); what are some camera angles/tech changes the NFL should use? (1:15:20).
