Mike Evans on 'Very Bad' Buccaneers: 'We Are Too Talented to Be 2-6'

Andrew GouldNov 6, 2017

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dropped to 2-6 following Week 9's 30-10 loss to the New Orleans Saints. Mike Evans knows they are running out of chances to turn the corner.

During Tampa Bay's fifth consecutive defeat, the wide receiver recorded a season-low one catch for 13 yards. His frustrations boiled over when he hit Saints rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore from behind between plays. Per the Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman, Evans called his blindside hit "unprofessional."

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the 24-year-old wideout also reflected on his team's struggles.

"We are very bad," Evans said. "We are too talented to be 2-6. We are in a bad spot and have to come together. Time is running out."

Time might have already expired. Tampa Bay head coach Dirk Koetter said the team will shut down quarterback Jameis Winston "for several weeks while his throwing shoulder heals," per Rapoport. Tampa Bay must save its sinking season this Sunday against the New York Jets as backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick faces his former team.
