With Bragging Rights Approaching, Is Survivor Series Necessary?

Mae YoungOct 16, 2009

What is WWE thinking? Since 1987, the Survivor Series has become synonymous with Thanksgiving and the five-on-five main events. It is really puzzling why WWE would have a PPV called Bragging Rights a month before Survivor Series basically with the same synopsis. How is Bragging Rights, a new concept?

It makes no sense whatsoever to have a seven-on-seven matchup between RAW and Smackdown then turn around and have another one in November.

I'm not sure who's the "BRAINS" behind the new Pay Per Views that the WWE seem to be spinning out this year but they are lackluster to say the least. Many thought Cyber Sunday was getting stale but it wasn't the PPV itself, it was the predictability of who would be picked and what the match-type would be. There were really no surprises when it came to Cyber Sunday and there is no one to blame for that but the E.

Then there is that age old question that has been lurking around since its return...where is ECW? How does ECW fit into Bragging Rights? Why isn't this show included in the brand vs. brand matchup? Are they saving ECW for Survivor Series? I think not.

Just like every other Pay Per View, ECW is going to be ignored and left off. Sure, they have a small roster and a slim chance of actually winning but why not involve ECW? What harm would it bring?

The WWE wants to build new stars and does that ever so slowly on ECW so why not bring that over into the Pay Per Views. Team ECW could be led by Tommy Dreamer with Shelton Benjamin, Goldust, Sheamus, Ezekiel Jackson, Kozlov, & Yoshi Tatsu.

So, with Bragging Rights nine days away, what is to become of the Survivor Series? Will there be any cross-brand matchups or will it remain in-house for each show? I really think it is bad marketing to have two similar pay per views back to back, no matter how the story is told.

The rest of the match card to say the least is sub par to say the least: The Intercontinental Champion, John Morrison versus United States Champion, The Miz; Cena vs Orton Part VI; a thrown together fatal 4way with the Undertaker, CM Punk, Rey Mysterio & Batista.

Again, where is ECW? Sure, it would undermine the prestige of the ECW title if Christian was included in the Morrison & Miz match but the ECW Champion should be featured in a match called Bragging Rights. I mean, the man has plenty to brag about. He is the longest reigning World Champion in the WWE at the moment.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Diva Match thrown in last minute to fill out the Pay Per View oppose to including ECW. I will keep my fingers crossed and hope that the WWE does the right thing before it is too late and include ECW since it's too late to revamp this Survivor Series Part One.
