Yankees Beat Red Sox 4-1 in 16-Inning Marathon Game
The New York Yankees outlasted the Boston Red Sox 4-1 in a 16-inning marathon Saturday at Fenway Park, adding to a wild night in MLB that saw Los Angeles Dodgers rookie Cody Bellinger hit for the cycle against the Miami Marlins.
Didi Gregorius drove in the game-winning run when he singled to score Jacoby Ellsbury, who led off the inning with a double. Austin Romine added an RBI single to make it 3-1, and Gary Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly to the warning track that plated Gregorius to give the Yankees a three-run cushion.
The comeback wouldn't have been made possible without some heroics from Matt Holliday, who tied the score at one in the top of the ninth when he smashed a solo home run off closer Craig Kimbrel that sailed over the Green Monster.

Boston's lone run was scored in the third inning when first baseman Mitch Moreland hit a sacrifice fly to center that scored Mookie Betts.
The Red Sox, it should be noted, played the game under protest after umpires declined to call interference on Holliday, who caused a throw from shortstop Xander Bogaerts to go off line.
Reliever Ben Hellerโwho struck out three and didn't allow a hitโwas credited with the win on a night when the Yankees used eight pitchers.
The Red Sox deployed eight pitchers as well, including starter Chris Sale, who dazzled by striking out 13 and scattering three hits in 7.2 innings before he gave way to Kimbrel, who blew his third save of the season.
Unfortunately for both sides, a doubleheader awaits Sunday that will require the starters to do heavy lifting in order to avoid both managers dipping back into their bullpens.
The first game, which is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET, will pit Bryan Mitchell against reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello, while the nightcap will feature Masahiro Tanaka against David Price.
