Wimbledon 2017: Men's Final Start Time, Schedule, Prediction and Prize Money

James DudkoJul 15, 2017

Roger Federer will try to win an eighth Wimbledon title when he faces Marin Cilic in London this Sunday. The 35-year-old has been in imperious form at this year's tournament and has yet to drop a set.

However, Federer will find big-serving Croatian Cilic a tricky opponent. He beat Gilles Muller and Sam Querrey en route to this final.

The winner will be due as much as £2.2 million, while the beaten finalist will still earn a cool £1.1 million, per the Daily Telegraph.

Before a preview, here are the schedule details for the final:

Date: Sunday, July 16

Time: 2 p.m. BST/9 a.m. ET.

TV Info: BBC One, ESPN.

Live Stream: WatchESPN.

Federer is bidding for history as he attempts to maintain his run of not dropping a set, per ATP Media Info:

The same source also revealed how Federer has already made history just by reaching this final:

A defining feature of Federer's progress this year has been the quality and variety of his service game. Federer has "won 83 per cent of points behind his first serve and 66 per cent of points behind his second serve," per Nick McCarvel and Craig O'Shannessy of the tournament's official website.

Of course, Cilic is also able to lean on a formidable service game. Yet, while there have been shades of subtlety and nuance about the way Federer serves, Cilic relies more on raw power.

The 28-year-old has boomed 130 aces through six matches, the second most at the All-England Club this year, per Kevin Mitchell of the Guardian.

Like Federer, Cilic is also chasing history. After all, a player from his country has only reached the final once previously, per Stuart Fraser of The Times:

The lure of matching Goran Ivanisevic's title win from 2001, combined with his serving power, will make Cilic tough to beat on the day. Understandably, Federer is already wary about facing an opponent who scored a notable straight-sets win over him in 2014, per David Law of BBC 5 live:

Federer is right to be somewhat cautious ahead of Sunday. However, the Swiss legend can take confidence from the way he has dominated the field this year.

Cilic wants his own piece of history, but Federer's bid to set the record for Wimbledon wins will prove stronger. Expect Federer to eventually take this final but only after Cilic ends his run of not losing a set.

Prediction: Federer to win in four sets.
