For 35-year-old Federer, it will be yet another chance to make history. The veteran has already won a record 18 Grand Slam titles in his career, the best mark by any male player ever.

As shared by ESPN's Darren Rovell, the All England Club has long been the top venue for his exploits:

Federer leads the head-to-head with Cilic, having won six out of seven. They met at Wimbledon last year, where the Croat gave the veteran a very tough battle, lasting all five sets.

Cilic has often been a tricky player for the top contenders on the tour, courtesy of his well-rounded ground game and his serve. Consistency and the ability to win matches against perceived lesser players have held him back, but he can show up for the big matches.

Per tennis writer Tumaini Carayol, he hasn't had the toughest road to the final:

Federer wasn't at his best in his win over Tomas Berdych but still didn't drop a set. The Swiss star has developed something of a tendency to play at the level necessary to advance in the last few years―quite often, he'll be unspectacular against lesser opponents and elevate his level when he needs to.

Against Cilic, his return game will have to be on point. If the Croat gets into a rhythm with his serve, he can be very dangerous, especially when he has room to advance to the net.

Cilic's groundstrokes are good enough to sustain rallies, but against Federer―arguably the greatest of all time from the baseline―he's likely to change speeds as often as he can, knowing his best chance lies in attack.

He'll have to be virtually perfect to beat an in-form Federer at Wimbledon, however.
