Roger Federer Defeats Tomas Berdych to Reach 2017 Wimbledon Final
Roger Federer avoided a shock at Wimbledon 2017 as he defeated Tomas Berdych on Friday to reach the final at the All England Club.
The Swiss icon prevailed on Centre Court, winning 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Federer now meets Marin Cilic on Sunday as he attempts to win the tournament for the eighth time in London.
Federer has yet to concede a set at the tournament this year, and Berdych was unable to capitalize on his opportunities despite producing at a high level.
Wimbledon quoted the winner as he advanced:
The 35-year-old handled the power hitting of his opponent as he stayed in touch in the opening set, with both men breaking serve to make it 4-4.
However, Berdych did not let his opponent steal a march, and the set went to a tiebreak situation.
Federer leaned on his experience to win the tiebreak, 7-4, as Berdych lost his serve twice at the vital moment.
The second was a similar affair, and both men were more conservative as they refused to take risks.

Berdych could not find the angles to push Federer back, and a second tiebreak became inevitable.
Federer frustrated the Czech star, taking the tiebreak 7-4 once again.
Berdych appeared tired in the third set, and Federer was relentless in the final stages of the encounter.
Federer broke serve to take control of the set, making it 4-3, and the key moment effectively ended Berdych's chances.

The winner landed 13 aces as his technical game reigned supreme just as it had many times before.
Federer is playing some of the best tennis of his career, and his forehand is irrepressible at present.
However, Cilic offers the veteran a sizable hurdle to jump, and his victory over Sam Querrey was impressive and decisive.
Cilic has a power game to disturb most opponents, but Federer has the knowledge to counter all challengers.
Berdych is known as one of the most powerful players in tennis, but even his very best wasn't enough against Federer in his current form.
