2017 Home Run Derby Odds: Defending Champion Stanton Favorite on Betting Lines
After an American League player won the MLB Home Run Derby five of the previous six years, Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton broke that streak in 2016 by winning it for the first time as the favorite.
Stanton has been listed as +165 chalk (bet $100 to win $165) to successfully defend his title on Monday at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.
Stanton actually became the second consecutive National League player to win the Home Run Derby, following Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds, as he took home the title at his own Great American Ball Park in 2015.

Frazier was traded to the Chicago White Sox the next offseason and lost in last year's final 20-13 to Stanton, who will now get the chance to repeat as champ in his own backyard at Marlins Park.
This year, Stanton is expected to be tested by New York Yankees rookie phenom Aaron Judge, who is listed as the +175 second choice to win the Home Run Derby and leads MLB in homers with 30. Judge has already broken Joe DiMaggio's record for most homers by a New York rookie, and he also ranks second in the AL in RBI with 66.
Stanton has 26 dingers to rank tied for first in the NL with Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds and is one ahead of rookie Cody Bellinger of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Votto is not participating in the contest, which lasts three rounds and is based on head-to-head matchups in a single-elimination tournament until a champion is crowned. However, the 21-year-old Bellinger figures to give fellow first-year player Judge and Stanton some competition as the +900 third choice on the Home Run Derby odds.
Bellinger got off to a hot start but broke an 11-game drought without a homer by hitting one on Saturday. He did not play his first MLB game until April 25 and hit 22 homers combined in May and June.
Other contestants in the 2017 Home Run Derby include Miguel Sano (+1000) of the Minnesota Twins, Mike Moustakas (+1400) of the Kansas City Royals, Gary Sanchez (+1400) of the Yankees, Justin Bour (+1400) of the Marlins and Charlie Blackmon (+2000) of the Colorado Rockies.
Of that group, Moustakas has the most homers with 25, and he recently won MLB's Final Vote in the AL to make his second All-Star Game.
