Video Showing Venus Williams' Car Accident Resulting in Fatality Released
Surveillance video from the fatal car crash involving Venus Williams was released Friday by TMZ Sports.
The tape shows Williams' SUV entering an intersection before her car was T-boned by an oncoming Hyundai Accent.
The passenger in that car, 78-year-old Jerome Barson, later died from injuries suffered in the crash.
Barson's family has since filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Williams seeking unspecified damages, per TMZ.
On Friday, CNN's Tony Marco obtained a ruling from a Florida judge that granted an emergency motion for Williams' vehicle to be searched.
Gary Iscoy, a lawyer for the Barson family, said in a statement he believes evidence from Williams' car will show she was at fault for the crash.
"They are pleased the evidence will be properly examined and preserved and it will prove that Miss Williams is at fault," he said.
Williams, 37, is currently competing at Wimbledon in London.
She secured a third-round, straight-set win over Naomi Osaka on Friday and will meet the 27th-seeded Ana Konjuh in Round 4 on Monday.
