Wimbledon 2017 Results: Winners, Scores, Stats from Tuesday's Singles Bracket

Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer eased through the opening round at Wimbledon 2017, with both players seeing their opponents retire with injury on Tuesday.

Djokovic was a set up against Martin Klizan before the Slovakian was forced to end his day with a calf injury.

Federer was also one set ahead when Alexandr Dolgopolov opted to retire after treatment at the All England Club.

Angelique Kerber was in sumptuous form as she dispatched Irina Falconi on Centre Court, winning 6-4, 6-4.

No. 6 seed Milos Raonic cruised into the next stage after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Caroline Wozniacki wrapped up a tough victory against Timea Babos, progressing 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Tuesday Recap

Djokovic and Federer will not have had easier opening matches at Wimbledon, both completing a set apiece before their opponents were forced to end their quests.

The Serbian star won the opening set 6-3, breaking Klizan in the eighth game to push ahead and take the opener.

However, at 2-0 in the second, it was clear the Slovakian was having mobility issues with a leg injury he had carried into the match.

It wasn't long before he admitted defeat and shook his illustrious opponent by the hand in resignation.

Federer appeared smooth and in control against Dolgopolov after winning the first set 6-3. 

The Swiss icon was 3-0 up in the second when the Ukrainian was forced to call it a day, unable to compete further after calling out the trainer.

Wimbledon highlighted the multiple former champion's record at the event:

Kerber was comfortable in her match with Falconi, breaking serve twice in the opening three games as she attempted to race away.

However, Falconi broke back to increase the pressure but could not prevent the No. 1 seed winning the first set.

Kerber lost her serve in the fifth game of the second, but she put her foot on the accelerator in order to capture the victory.

The German won 74 per cent on her first serve as she muscled Falconi out of contention.

There were also wins for Karolina Pliskova and Agnieszka Radwanska, who both gained straight-sets victories over Evgeniya Rodina and Jelena Jankovic, respectively.

Raonic had no issues in his first match of the competition, skipping past Struff, 7-6 (5), 6-2, 7-6 (4).

Djokovic and Federer both look in excellent shape at the first hurdle of the championship, and the pair will challenge Andy Murray for the title as the Brit attempts to retain his crown.

Murray has carried an injury into the competition, and he might struggle in the second week if he aggravates the knock.
