NFLPA Warns Players of 3 Potential Financial Service Scams
Following recent inquiries raised by players, the NFL Players Association has alerted its members to a potential financial scam operation.
Per Alex Marvez of the Sporting News, multiple players filed inquiries over the past two weeks relating to multiple "tax advisory firms operated or controlled by a Chicago-area resident named John Richard Burgess."
Marvez noted one player was hit with a $500,000 services fee from one of the firms that Burgess operates or controls.

The NFLPA has yet to take legal action against Burgess, but the report mentions it could be an option "in the future."
Burgess has had run-ins with the law in the past, including a 2009 lawsuit filed by Illinois attorney general Lisa Madigan alleging the Burgess-owned International Profit Associates, Inc. were using "wide-ranging deceptive practices to ensnare hundreds of small-business clients into consulting service contracts that fail to fulfill the defendants' promises to boost their clients' bottom lines."
