Wimbledon 2017: Schedule, Dates, Times, Live Stream and Predictions

Matt JonesJul 1, 2017

The focus is always on Andy Murray when it comes to Wimbledon, although as the defending champion with doubts over his fitness, the scrutiny will be extra intense for the world No. 1 in 2017.

Murray, having lost at Queen's Club in Round 1, then missed two scheduled exhibition matches with a hip problem. Given the two-time winner has played just one competitive match on grass since the French Open, the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic will fancy their chances.

In the women's draw, Angelique Kerber is the first seed and will be seeking to rediscover some form after a disappointing start to 2017. The returning Petra Kvitova, seeded 11th, is expected to be a major threat, though.

Men's Draw

As aforementioned, Murray's injury problems mean the men's draw is fascinating ahead of the start of the event. Yet there's a familiar feel to the top of the seedings.

Indeed, after respective lean spells, Federer and Nadal have enjoyed renaissances in 2017, winning the Australian Open and French Open, respectively.

As noted by BBC Sport's Piers Newberry, along with Djokovic, it means the "Big Four" are back:

Federer was imperious in Australia and should be fresh for a crack at an eighth Wimbledon title having skipped the French Open.

As for Nadal, he's was in stunning form at Roland Garros,  claiming his 10th French Open title with some of the best tennis he's ever played. If he can convert that type of form onto the SW19 courts, the rest of the field are in trouble.

Djokovic is looking for a spark, having crashed out of the French Open against Dominic Thiem in the quarters. It was at Wimbledon last year when his respective slump was effectively started, losing to Sam Querrey.

Per Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times, the Serb has a tough draw to negotiate as well:

If Murray can make it through the first week unscathed, he can be a force in the final stages, as he's so good on this surface. However, after winning in Halle in fine style and down under earlier this year, a rejuvenated Federer will find a way to secure an historic title at his favourite venue.

Predicted Winner: Federer

Women's Draw

Kerber will start Wimbledon as the top seed in the women's draw, although after a rotten run of results, few anticipate her to be in contention for the title.

The German struggled badly during the clay-court season and was dumped out of the French Open in the first round.

As noted by Jose Morgado of Portuguese outlet Record, it's imperative Kerber ups her levels here if she is to stay top of the WTA rankings:

With Serena Williams absent and the world No. 1 struggling, it makes for an open women's draw.

Kvitova's progress will be keenly followed. The Czech is back in action after she suffered a stab wound on her left hand, and she was impressive in winning the Aegon Classic in preparation for SW19. Having won at Wimbledon twice already, she knows what's needed to get over the line, too.

Another player tipped to make an impact is Jelena Ostapenko, who shocked the tennis world with her win at the French Open recently.

The 20-year-old's stunning power and relentless energy will make her tough to beat at the All England Club; Matthew Jones of Radio City Talk is a fan:

The home crowd haven't had too much to cheer in the women's draw down the years, although Johanna Konta may potentially change that in 2017.

The sixth seed for the tournament beat Ostapenko and Kerber at Eastbourne in impressive style. She had to pull out of the competition with a spine injury after beating the latter, but if she's fit and firing, Konta has shown the quality needed to go far.

Still, after impressing in her comeback and having enjoyed so much success on the Centre Court before, Kvitova will have another glorious year at Wimbledon.

Predicted Winner: Petra Kvitova
