Ricky Rubio Trade Rumors: Jazz Reportedly Interested in Timberwolves PG
June 27, 2017
The Utah Jazz are reportedly among the teams who have expressed interest in acquiring Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio.
ESPN's Marc Stein reported the news Tuesday.
Stein initially reported Monday that the T-Wolves were "intent" on trading Rubio in an effort to bring in more shooting.
On draft night, Minnesota traded Zach LaVine, Kris Dunn and the draft rights to Lauri Markkanen to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Jimmy Butler and the draft rights to Justin Patton.
Trading Rubio would leave the Timberwolves without a quality option at point guard, but Stein added that the organization wants to acquire a veteran for the position.
The 26-year-old Rubio is coming off his best NBA season, as he set career highs with 11.1 points and 9.1 assists per game, as well as a shooting percentage of 40.2 percent.
Minnesota has one of the most impressive cores in the NBA with Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Butler, but depth could be an issue at other spots in the lineup.
Although it can be argued Rubio hasn't reached his full potential, the Spaniard continues to improve, and he should generate interest on the trade market with just two years remaining on his current deal.
The Jazz may lose starting point guard George Hill in free agency, and Rubio could be an attractive replacement rather than an in-house option such as Dante Exum.
