Tom Brady Voted No. 1 in NFL Network's Top-100 Poll for 2016-17 Season

Tim DanielsJun 27, 2017

NFL players chose New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the league's best player heading into the 2017 season in NFL Network's annual top-100 ranking.

Mike Reiss of ESPN.com noted the results of the voting Monday night, which included Denver Broncos outside linebacker Von Miller at No. 2 and Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones at No. 3.

Brady is in the conversation as the greatest player in NFL history. Leading the Patriots to a 28-3 comeback victory over the Falcons in Super Bowl LI gave him five championships along with four Super Bowl MVP awards, two regular-season MVPs and 12 Pro Bowl selections.

The 39-year-old University of Michigan product continues to play at a high level when most players are either retired or showing obvious signs of decline. He tossed 28 touchdowns and just two interceptions across 12 games after returning from his controversial Deflategate suspension last year.

Ian O'Connor of ESPN.com noted last month the legendary QB has shown no interest in hanging up his cleats and could continue to play for another half-decade or more.

"I always said my mid-40s, and naturally that means around 45," Brady said. "If I get there and I still feel like I do today, I don't see why I wouldn't want to continue."

Meanwhile, the oddsmakers agree with NFL players about the league's most valuable asset.

Justin Hartling of OddsShark noted Brady was installed as the early favorite to win the MVP award for the 2017-18 season. He's followed by fellow quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers and Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders. In fact, the top seven choices are all QBs.

Father Time may eventually catch up with the longtime Patriots signal-caller, but it hasn't happened yet. Anything other than another dominant season would come as a surprise in the eyes of both Vegas and his counterparts around the league.
