What Andy Murray's Loss to Sam Querrey Means for US Open 2017
Andy Murray's up-and-down 2017 season took another hit Wednesday when he lost to Sam Querrey in five sets in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon.
Murray's chances of winning a Grand Slam title this year now hang on the U.S. Open. He lost to Mischa Zverev in the fourth round of the Australian Open, while Stan Wawrinka bested him in a five-set thriller in the French Open semifinals.
On top of those struggles, Murray also bowed out of May's Italian Open in the second round shortly after Borna Coric bounced him from the Madrid Open in the round of 16 following elbow troubles.
Murray will now have to regroup in advance of the U.S. Open, but if recent history is any indication, he'll have to conquer some demons that have plagued him since he hoisted the tournament's hardware in 2012. The Scot has not advanced beyond the quarterfinals since that victory, including a quarterfinal exit against Kei Nishikori in 2016.
Now preparing for a return to the Big Apple, Murray will have to recuperate and rediscover his form to right the ship and end his Grand Slam season on a high note.
