French Open 2017 Results: Monday Winners, Scores, Stats and Singles Draw Update
World No. 1 Andy Murray continued his renaissance at the French Open on Monday, as he breezed past Karen Khachanov in straight sets and into the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.
Murray was the stronger player throughout this one, and the struggles he suffered in the buildup to this Grand Slam showdown now feel a long time ago, as he notched a 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win. Next up for the top seed is a tricky quarter-final against Kei Nishikori, who recovered from a 6-0 loss in the first set to beat Fernando Verdasco.
In the women's draw, third seed Simona Halep was imperious in a 6-1, 6-1 win over Carla Suarez Navarro, setting up a quarter with Elina Svitolina.

Monday Recap

Although Murray may not have shown the poise of Rafael Nadal or the power of Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros so far, the Scot has demonstrated spades of spirit to battle this far.
For Murray, having something to prove has always triggered the best from him. And while that may be ludicrous to say of a three-time Grand Slam winner and world No. 1, he was written off by plenty before a ball was struck at this French Open.
Against Khachanov, there were signs the spark was coming back into Murray's game, too. The tournament Twitter feed relayed some of his best moments:
Next up for Murray will be Nishikori, who eliminated the Briton at the quarter-final stage of last year's U.S. Open. That was one of only two wins for the Japanese star against the top seed in 10 matches.
Nishikori will stride into this quarter-final with confidence nonetheless. That's after he bounced back from a bagel in the first set against Verdasco, winning the next three sets comfortably and securing a bagel of his own to finish the match off.
As noted by Jose Morgardo of Record, having struggled for form this season, relief was etched on the face of the eighth seed:
Also making it through was Stan Wawrinka, as the 2016 champion got past home favourite Gael Monfils in straight sets. Marin Cilic stays in the hat, too, as his opponent Kevin Anderson retired in the second set of their match.
The star of the show in the women's bracket was Halep, as she was far too classy for Navarro over two lopsided sets. Per the competition's Twitter account, the Romanian only needed an hour to get this one in the books, moving into the last eight at Roland Garros for the second time.

Halep is on the hunt for her maiden Grand Slam title, having come closest at the French Open in 2014, when she was a runner-up. It's tough to remember her playing quite so well at this stage of any other major championship since.
Indeed, even her opponent was quick to pay tribute to the performance of Halep:
Svitolina overcame the third seed in the final of the Italian Open recently, meaning she won't be daunted by the task at hand. However, she admitted she had a back niggle ahead of her match with Petra Martic on Monday.
As noted by Ben Rothenberg of the New York Times, the fifth seed was nowhere near her best, although she did dig deep to eventually outlast her opponent, who only made it into the main draw at Roland Garros as a qualifier:
Second seed Karolina Pliskova was another big name who had trouble with an outsider, as she needed all three sets available to overcome Veronica Cepede Royg.

The second seed lost the opening set and was really struggling to find any rhythm. However, she got things together in the second stanza thanks to an early double break, and when the pressure was on at 4-4 in the third set, she struck again.
In the final match of the day, Caroline Garcia got the better of Alize Cornet in straight sets in an all-French showdown.
