Steelers Select Cancer Survivor James Conner in 3rd Round of 2017 NFL Draft
Running back James Conner won't have to travel far to start his NFL career after the Pittsburgh Steelers made him the 105th pick of the 2017 NFL draft.
Conner played his college football at the University of Pittsburgh, which offered a hearty congratulations to its star player:
The Panthers weren't the only ones giving praise to Conner on Twitter:
Conner is one of the best feel-good stories in this year's draft. The 21-year-old was limited to one game in 2015 and revealed he was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma.
In May 2016, Conner shared that he was officially cancer-free. He returned to the field for the Panthers last season and was terrific with 1,092 yards and 16 touchdowns on 216 carries.
Now, Conner will be going to play for the Steelers behind Le'Veon Bell. The Steelers have a wide-open offensive attack that is going to make plenty of room for a playmaker of Conner's capability.
Even though Conner won't be starting in Pittsburgh as long as Bell is healthy, he will find a way to make an impact on the field.
