Mitchell Trubisky Reportedly Worked Out for Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills worked out North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky on Sunday, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, with owner Terry Pegula and head coach Sean McDermott present.
Trubisky is expected to be one of the first quarterbacks off the board in the first round of this year's NFL draft. The Bills hold the No. 10 selection.
Gunter Brewer, the co-offensive coordinator and wideouts coach at North Carolina, also posted a picture with Pegula and McDermott on Sunday:
While the Bills have Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, rumors persisted throughout the offseason that the Bills may consider cutting him and seeking a new long-term solution at quarterback. While it appears Taylor will remain with the team through at least 2017, it wouldn't be surprising if the Bills also drafted a quarterback and retained Taylor as a short-term option.
If the Bill don't go that route, however, they have three quarterbacks on the roster after announcing the signing of veteran T.J. Yates on Monday. With second-year project Cardale Jones also on the roster, the Bills have some flexibility at the position heading into the draft.
Trubisky may be one of the quarterbacks available at No. 10, however. In his latest mock draft, B/R's Matt Miller made him the No. 5 overall selection to the Cleveland Browns in a projected trade with the Tennessee Titans. In that same article, however, Miller spoke to a director of player personnel who noted, "I don't think that run on quarterbacks is gonna happen early. I think it happens in the 20s."
He added that the Bills could go after quarterback Deshaun Watson, however, if general manager Doug Whaley is "as in love with Watson as we hear he is."
So even if the Bills target a quarterback at No. 10, it's hardly a guarantee their player of choice will be Trubisky. Or that Trubisky would even be available to them with the pick.
