NBA Announces Expansion to "Last 2 Minute" Officiating Reports for 2017 Playoffs
The NBA announced Friday it is expanding the criteria for the "last two minute" officiating reports once the playoffs begin on April 15.
According to an official release relayed by Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Woo, the league said new protocol dictates reports will be issued for any games within three points at any stage in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime.
The NBA also announced it will continue to release play-by-play reports for calls and material non-calls that occur in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter or overtime when games are within five points entering the final 120 seconds of play.
The NBA started issuing L2M reports in March 2015, and they have been made available to the public as a way to increase transparency between the league, its fans and the media.
According to the release, NBA officials have recorded a call accuracy of 98 percent and event accuracy of 91.3 percent in qualifying L2M games so far this season.
