Ian Kinsler 2nd Player in Tigers History with Consecutive Opening Day Homers
Detroit Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler knocked a 1-0 pitch from Jose Quintana over the fence in the fourth inning of Tuesday's Opening Day game against the Chicago White Sox.
Kinsler's homer marked his second on Opening Day in the last two seasons, making him just the second player in Tigers history to do so, per the Elias Sports Bureau (via ESPN.com). Catcher Aaron Robinson was the only previous player to accomplish the same feat while with Detroit, doing so in both 1949 and 1950.
Detroit's Opening Day game was scheduled for Monday, but it was postponed due to rain. While it was delayed to a day later, the Tigers' bats were still lively, scoring five runs in the second inning. Kinsler's bomb added a sixth and final tally to the team's score en route to a 6-3 victory.

Kinsler has seen his fair share of Opening Days, with Tuesday beginning his 12th professional campaign. Thus far in his career, the 34-year-old has earned four All-Star nominations in addition to a Gold Glove he was awarded last year, per Baseball Reference.
Despite the elongated career, Kinsler has only played for two clubs. He spent his first eight seasons with the Texas Rangers and is now in his fourth with the Tigers.
While Kinsler may no longer have the wheels to reach 20 steals—last doing so in 2012 with the Rangers—the power has not left him. After a couple of down years in 2014 (17 homers) and 2015 (11 homers), the veteran surged in that department last season, collecting 28 home runs.
His power stats received an early boost Tuesday. He will look to add to them Thursday in the team's second contest of the season, assuming rain doesn't spoil the festivities again.
