Pac-12 Tournament 2017: Quarterfinals Scores, Semifinals Bracket and Schedule

Adam WellsMar 9, 2017

Thursday marks the continuation of the 2017 Pac-12 tournament with four quarterfinal games featuring the star power of Oregon, Arizona and UCLA, all looking to secure the conference's automatic NCAA tournament berth.

With the trio of Oregon, Arizona and UCLA all ranked in the top seven of the current Associated Press Top 25 poll, it would be a huge upset if any of those teams were to lose before the semifinals. But that's also the beauty of basketball in March, when weird things tend to happen.

California 78, Utah 75

LAS VEGAS, NV - MARCH 09: Jabari Bird #23 of the California Golden Bears celebrates at the end of a quarterfinal game of the Pac-12 Basketball Tournament against the Utah Utes at T-Mobile Arena Arena on March 9, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nevada. California won

The California Golden Bears took steps toward securing a berth in the NCAA tournament with a 78-75 victory over the Utah Utes, earning their second Pac-12 tournament win in two days.

Cal had to hold on for dear life to earn its spot in the semifinals, nearly blowing an 11-point lead with just under three minutes remaining. Utah closed the gap to 76-75 after Kyle Kuzma's three-pointer with six seconds to play.

Jabari Bird made two free throws on Cal's ensuing possession to extend the lead back to three, and Sedrick Barefield was unable to hit a last-second three-pointer to send the game into overtime.

ESPN's Joe Lunardi had Cal among his next four out on his most recent bracketology update. There is still work for the Golden Bears to make the Big Dance, but this was a huge win for the program to set up a showdown against Oregon on Friday.

The Oregon Ducks outscored the Arizona State Sun Devils by 20 points in the second half en route to an easy 80-57 victory to secure a spot in the Pac-12 tournament semifinals.

The Ducks' usually-reliable offense was terrific, shooting 49.2 percent from the field and creating second-chance opportunities with 13 offensive rebounds. Four of their five starters had at least two offensive rebounds in the win.

Oregon head coach Dana Altman's defense was fantastic. The Ducks limited Arizona State to just 31.1 percent shooting overall, though Torian Graham was spectacular with a season-high 32 points. The problem for Graham was his teammates combined to make only seven field goals.

Arizona 92, Colorado 78

LAS VEGAS, NV - MARCH 09: Allonzo Trier #35 of the Arizona Wildcats handles the ball against George King #24 of the Colorado Buffaloes during a quarterfinal game of the Pac-12 Basketball Tournament at T-Mobile Arena Arena on March 9, 2017 in Las Vegas, N

The Arizona Wildcats pulled away from the Colorado Buffaloes in the second half to cruise to a 92-78 win Thursday night.

Colorado had no answer for Arizona's outside shooting. The Wildcats went 10-of-19 from beyond the arc, compared to an 8-of-25 clip from the Buffaloes.

All five of Arizona's starters also scored in double figures. Lauri Markkanen led the way with 20 points, while Allonzo Trier chipped in with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Derrick White was one of the few bright spots for Colorado. The senior guard finished with 31 points, six rebounds and five assists.

It was hardly UCLA's prettiest effort of the season, but the Bruins slipped past the USC Trojans to cap off Thursday night's quarterfinal session.

Isaac Hamilton starred for the Bruins in the win and registered a team-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-9 from three.

Lonzo Ball added a modest 12 points and seven dimes while turning the ball over just twice in a controlled and poised performance.

The Trojans had several openings to pull off the upset despite shooting 38.7 percent from the field, but they missed eight free throws and couldn't come up with clutch conversions late when the Bruins appeared vulnerable.

UCLA will now square off against Arizona on Friday night with a bid in the Pac-12 title game on the line.
